DJs at Paramount: DJ Stefan Being a DJ for almost 10 years in his home country of Sweden and spinning for a straight crowd, Stefan went to London for the first time in 2004 and attended MEGAWOOF, his first circuit party, and fell in love. "Being part of that night kind of set it off. It's just amazing to see the DJ moving the crowd in a very uplifting and progressive way." At that time Stefan worked at a radio station called Energy as head of commercial production. He also had the opportunity of leading the most-listened to national radio show called NRJ DANCE WEEKEND which focused on new dance music. So the club music has always been a great part of his life. Unfortunately the radio market went really bad and Stefan was made redundant. He moved to London and got some sets at the famous TONKER which is more of a bar where you play soulful funky house and sometimes a bit harder depending on the crowd. "I started learning that you need to be very creative as a DJ - like everybody says 'it is not hard to beatmix two tracks if you learn it'. No it is not but the next level then is the harmony and the drive and that's where I put my energy. Whether it is vocal TOP 40 club mixes, progressive, tribal, trance - it is important to not let go of the crowd whatsoever. If you are having a peak of the night for 2-3 songs and the crowd wants more, just go for it! Don't play by the 'rules'." Stefan also had to take care of his career so he got back into school, left the DJing at halt for a while, studied IT and is now working in that field. In the southwest part of Sweden where he lives he cannot play the music he wants, so in November of last year he got a set together with the Furball DJs at the monthly BEARAWAREPARTY in Copenhagen, Denmark which attracts up to 300 bears. Immediately after, they offered him the opportunity to be their resident DJ. Stefan is now resident DJ and hosting a monthly podcast "World of Dance Music" focusing on current dance music and sometimes different styles. Stefan is highly appreciating the new scene DJs from Sweden: Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Axwell, Eric Prydz, AN21 & Max Vangelli. Swedish House Mafia has recently been touring the States, and the American circuit scene is really really impressed. "Breaking new soil is always good and I cannot wait to spin for the first time in the US!" |
