Alec Mapa

Alec Mapa is an award winning actor, comedian, and journalist. With hilarious live performances, ground breaking television roles, and thought provoking columns in The Advocate, Alec has entertained audiences around the world in every imaginable medium.

This fall Alec went from Desperate to Ugly as he joined the cast of UGLY BETTY as star "Fashion Buzz" reporter SUZUKI ST. PIERRE. Alec was seen this summer in the Robert Smigel/Judd Apatow comedy YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN with Adam Sandler.

Audiences first discovered Alec on Broadway in the Tony Award winning production of M.BUTTERFLY. Alec has guest starred on over 40 television series, including ALIAS, FRIENDS, DHARMA AND GREG, ROSEANNE, THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW, SEINFELD and NYPD Blue. In 2001 Alec made television history by playing network television's very first Gay Asian series regular role on the short lived CBS sitcom SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS. He then starred in four seasons of the UPN sitcom HALF AND HALF. Currently he recurs as Gabriella Solis' pal "Vern" on the ABC mega-hit DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. Film audiences howled at Alec's shameless scenery stealing as "N' Cream" in the wildly popular drag queen musical CONNIE AND CARLA. Other film credits include PLAYING BY HEART and the upcoming indies DIRTY LAUNDRY and TRU LOVED.

Alec's abundant skill as a stand up comic was showcased when his WISECRACK comedy special premiered on LOGO. Premiering in 2005, his comedy special has remained a network favorite and a popular download on itunes. Alec is a contributor to "The Advocate" where his column "Minority Retort" has been a regular feature since 2003. Alec continues to act in television and movies, and perform live across the country and on cruise ships around the world.
