Dina Martina was conceived by Seattle performer Grady West, who developed the hilariously unwitting character into a multi-faceted persona with an extremely devoted following. Upon her 1989 debut at Seattle's Center on Contemporary Art, Dina was an instant sucess, gleaning reviews that dubbed her "surreal", "brilliant" and "hysterically funny". Word of mouth spread the news of Dina Martina throughout Seattle, and soon West began receiving invitations to perform up and down the West Coast. Since then, Dina Martina has shared the bill with acts such as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Nina Hagen and Village People. In 1997, West was nominated for a Stranger Fringe Theater Award for best solo show and in 1999 and 2004 he received Footlight Awards from the Seattle Times.
Absolutely packed with ridiculous songs, ludicrous dance, wonderfully horrifying costumes and more audience gifts than law permits, Dina Martina's shows have become synonomous with jaw-dropping pathos and mind-blowing comedy. After numerous sold-out performances everywhere from Vancouver, Portland and Maui to San Francisco, Provincetown and New York, Dina Martina has been described as "a train wreck in heels", "pure comedic genius" and "one of the best nightmares you'll ever have".
A Dina Marina show is, quite simply put, a unique night of hilarious entertainment that you will never forget.
