2010 Todd Alsup

Todd Alsup

Singer/songwriter/pianist Todd Alsup is a welcome throwback to classic songwriting and showmanship – an exciting artist who can consistently rock a crowd with astonishing vocals and honest songs bursting with groove and personality. Released in 2008, Todd's debut EP "Facts & Figures" has been enthusiastically received, with critics hailing Todd's combination of "giddy piano-pop, old-school soul and free-spirited songs," as an "earnest if unlikely divide between Ben Folds and John Legend." (Performing Songwriter, June 2008). Blessed with vocals that rise up with conviction and warmth, he is bound to strike a chord with listeners.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Todd was attracted to the classic sounds of '60s soul and '70s pop at an early age. "I remember discovering my parents' record collection – The Beatles, Carole King, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel," he says. "I spent hours and hours wearing down their vinyl, simply captivated. I fell in love with artists like Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin who could deliver a melody and lyric like no one else. Storytellers and soul singers – those were my idols."

This is proving to be an outstanding time for Todd. Last fall, Todd was honored to join a prestigious list of artists endorsed by Yamaha. He was recently profiled in Billboard Magazine as a Billboard Underground Artist, and is currently featured in a video performance of his single "The Good Fight" on Billboard.com. "The Good Fight" is currently taking college radio by storm, and is receiving regular airplay on Sirius Satellite Radio, as well as New York's Q104.3. After a busy summer of performances at various music festivals, Todd was selected to showcase at the NACA Northeast Convention last fall, and he is currently scheduling a winter/spring tour of colleges throughout the Northeast. Meanwhile, he regularly thrills faithful crowds on tour and at popular downtown NYC clubs. Equally impressive in solo and full-band performances, Todd draws audiences in with his remarkable voice and unforgettable storytelling.

For Todd the journey is all about making a lasting connection with listeners. "I try to keep my music universal and write stories that people can relate to. I believe that the most timeless songs are the ones about things we can all identify with. I would love to bring back that era of really well-crafted songs that tell meaningful and powerful stories about the human condition. I think that's a lost art and if I can share that passion with an audience then I'm satisfied." Todd is currently working on a full-length album.
